Breathable Softshell Jacket Manufacturer — Low MOQ, Custom Logo OEM

If you’re sourcing softshell jackets for your brand, school, or team, one spec separates a jacket people actually wear from one that gets returned: breathability. Most factories can press a softshell together — far fewer build to a stated, testable breathability number. This guide explains what to look for in a manufacturer, and how to brief one.

Why Breathability Defines a Softshell

A softshell’s whole job is to be worn during activity — hiking, cycling, working, layering under a shell. That means it has to move sweat vapor out, or it becomes clammy and useless within minutes.

Unlike a hardshell (built for maximum waterproofing), a softshell trades some water protection for stretch, comfort, and high breathability. If you’re not sure which build your product needs, see softshell vs hardshell and waterproof vs breathable.

So when you evaluate a softshell manufacturer, the first question isn’t “is it waterproof?” — it’s “what breathability spec can you build to, and can you prove it?”

What to Require From a Breathable Softshell Manufacturer

1. A stated breathability number — not vague claims

Ask for MVTR (g/m²/24h) or RET, not just the word “breathable.” A capable factory specs it on the tech pack. (See breathability ratings explained.) Common softshell tiers run 5,000–20,000g depending on fabric and use case.

2. In-house construction control

Breathability is undone by poor construction — sealed-shut seams, the wrong membrane lamination. A manufacturer that controls seam-taping, lamination, and zipper installation in-house can hit your spec consistently instead of outsourcing the parts that matter.

3. PFC-free DWR

A water-repellent finish keeps the outer face from wetting out (which kills breathability when the fabric saturates). For EU and eco-conscious markets, insist on PFC-free DWR.

4. Low MOQ + sampling

A real OEM partner lets you validate before you commit — a single sample, then a small first run. Avoid factories that only quote 500+ pieces.

5. Custom branding done in-house

Embroidery, heat transfer, screen print, woven labels — handled in-house means faster turnaround and tighter quality than a subcontractor chain. See custom logo service.

How to Brief Your Softshell Order

A clear tech brief gets you accurate quotes and right-first-time samples:

  1. Use case — what activity / climate (drives the breathability target)
  2. Breathability — MVTR target (e.g. 10,000g for general, 20,000g for high-output)
  3. Water resistance — softshells are usually water-resistant; specify DWR + any taped seams
  4. Fabric weight — lightweight vs warm-backed (fleece-lined) softshell
  5. Branding — logo placement + method
  6. MOQ + timeline — quantity and deadline
