OEM Manufacturing FAQ

What is the difference between OEM and ODM at your factory? expand_more

OEM means you send us a complete tech pack, patterns and fabric specs, and we manufacture exactly to your blueprint. ODM means you start from one of our 50+ proven jacket blocks and customize fabric, color and branding. OEM gives you full design control; ODM is faster and cheaper for first-time brand owners since no pattern development is needed.

Do you offer full-package production or only cut-and-make? expand_more

We are a full-package (FOB) factory. We source the fabric, trims, zippers and hardware, then cut, sew, finish, QC and pack — you receive retail-ready jackets. We do not work cut-make-trim (CMT) where you supply your own fabric, because controlling the full material chain is how we guarantee the technical specs and finish.

How do you protect my designs and intellectual property? expand_more

Your designs stay yours — we never resell your patterns or styles to other clients. We sign an NDA before reviewing your tech pack, and your blocks, artwork and tooling remain your property throughout the relationship.

What is the development process from idea to bulk? expand_more

You send a tech pack or reference sample; we quote within 1 business day; we make a one-piece paid sample ($100, refundable against your bulk order) in 7-10 business days; after your fit approval we run bulk production. Sea freight adds 25-35 days, air adds 5-7 days.

What is your production capacity and lead time? expand_more

Our 3,000 m² factory in Sanmen, Taizhou (Zhejiang, China) runs 240 workers and has manufactured technical outerwear since 2013. Bulk lead time is 25-35 days for typical 30-200 piece runs from approved sample; larger volumes are scheduled per quote.

What is the minimum order quantity for an OEM project? expand_more

MOQ is 30 pieces per design per colorway, for both OEM and ODM. This low minimum lets new brands validate a style in market before committing to larger volumes. Pantone color matching and custom logos are available from the first 30-piece run.

How OEM Outerwear Production Works

OEM means you own the design and we manufacture to it. These are the mechanics buyers need to understand before sending a first tech pack.

OEM Or ODM For Outerwear

OEM means the design is yours — you supply the tech pack, the pattern intent and the specification, and the factory builds exactly that. ODM means the factory supplies the design and you adapt it, which is faster and cheaper but gives you no exclusivity over the silhouette. For outerwear the practical split is that OEM makes sense once you have a proven fit block and a design language worth protecting, while ODM makes sense for a first season or a filler SKU. We run both, and we will say which one a brief actually needs rather than upselling development work.

What An Outerwear Tech Pack Must Contain

An incomplete tech pack is the largest single cause of sampling delays. If any item below is missing the factory guesses, and you pay for the guess in a second sample round.

  • check_small Flat sketches, front and back, with construction callouts.
  • check_small Full graded size chart with points of measure and tolerances.
  • check_small Bill of materials: face fabric, membrane, lining, insulation and interlining, with GSM and composition for each.
  • check_small Trim schedule: zipper brand and gauge, snaps, cord locks, elastic, hook-and-loop.
  • check_small Performance targets: waterproof rating in mm, breathability in g/m2, seam sealing method, DWR type.
  • check_small Label and packing spec: main label, care label written to destination-market regulations, hangtag, polybag, carton.

OEM Work Jackets Versus Outdoor Jackets

Work jackets and outdoor jackets share a factory but not a specification. Workwear prioritises abrasion resistance, reinforced stress points, ripstop face fabrics, high-visibility trims where regulations require them, and survival through industrial laundering — often at the cost of weight and packability. Outdoor jackets prioritise weight, breathability and waterproof performance under intermittent use. If a tech pack was written for one and you are ordering the other, the fabric and reinforcement schedule needs rewriting before it is quoted, not after the first sample fails.

How OEM Outerwear Pricing Is Built

A quote is fabric plus trims plus labour minutes plus finishing plus freight, and the largest single lever is almost always the face fabric and membrane. After that come seam sealing method, zipper brand, insulation weight and the number of separate panels, because every extra panel adds cutting and sewing minutes. Order quantity affects per-unit fabric price through roll minimums rather than through labour. This is why we quote against a tech pack instead of publishing a price list — two jackets that look identical can differ widely once the bill of materials is real.

Quality Gates In OEM Production

Quality on an OEM order is decided by inspection points, not promises. The sequence we run is: incoming fabric inspection against the approved swatch, a pre-production sample signed off by you, an inline check at roughly 20% of the run so a systematic fault is caught before the whole order is cut and sewn, and a final random inspection before packing. We hold ISO 9001 and can supply SGS test reports, and we arrange third-party testing such as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 or REACH per order against your destination market rather than claiming blanket certification we do not hold.
